About
Computation is physical. While modern digital computers rapidly approach conventional engineering limits to computation, they remain far away from fundamental limits. At the same time there is rapidly growing demand for energy-efficient computation, largely driven by the emergence of AI.
The UNSW Physical Computation Laboratory studies technologies for computation outside the conventional digital paradigm. Our research activities are arranged around three themes:
1. Learning Machines
2. Integrated Sensing and Computing
3. Information and Thermodynamics
We invite you to learn more about our activities by reading the Research, People, Faciities, and PhD Opportunities pages, and reach out to us should you find something with which to engage!
